Nullscape Curse Tier List — All Curses Ranked by Impact

Complete Nullscape curse tier list ranking 98 regular curses and 48 greater curses by how much they impact your run. S tier curses are easy to handle, D tier can end your run.

Nullscape Curse Tier List — Curses Ranked by Impact

Curses are Nullscape's signature mechanic. Every run applies random curse modifiers that change the difficulty — some are minor inconveniences, others can single-handedly end your run. This tier list ranks the most common and impactful curses by how much they affect your survival.

Important: In this tier list, S tier = minimal impact (easy to deal with) and D tier = run-ending (extremely dangerous). This is inverted from class/upgrade tier lists where S = best.

Understanding the Curse System

Regular Curses vs. Greater Curses

Nullscape has two categories of curses:

  • 98 Regular Curses — Standard modifiers that appear in all difficulty modes. These are the most common curses you'll encounter.
  • 48 Greater Curses — Enhanced, more powerful versions of regular curses. These appear more frequently in Extreme and Chaos Mode and have dramatically amplified effects.

How Curses Are Applied

  • At the start of each run, the game selects a random combination of curses from the pool.
  • Higher difficulty modes apply more curses simultaneously.
  • Chaos Mode can stack curses in unusual combinations that create unique challenges.
  • You cannot remove or swap curses during a run — you must adapt to whatever you're given.

Tier List Overview — Regular Curses

AManageable — easy to adaptRandom Spawn, Panic, Husk Block
BModerate — requires adjustmentsNearsightedness, Fear, Beacon Mirage, Barotrauma, Mass Infection
CDifficult — significant challengeAmbush, Cheeseware, Delusion, Bigger Blast
DDevastating — can end runs

S Tier — Minimal Impact

Camouflage

  • Effect: Changes enemy or player visual appearance.
  • Why S Tier: A purely cosmetic curse in practice. It might look confusing, but gameplay mechanics remain unchanged. Easiest curse in the game to ignore completely.

Muted

  • Effect: Reduces or removes audio cues.
  • Why S Tier: Audio cues in Nullscape are helpful but not essential. Visual indicators still show enemy positions and dangers. Experienced players barely notice this curse.

Pixelate

  • Effect: Applies a pixelated visual filter to the screen.
  • Why S Tier: Annoying but harmless. You can still see enemies, platforms, and interactables clearly enough to navigate. Purely an aesthetic annoyance.

A Tier — Manageable

Random Spawn

  • Effect: Changes your spawn point to a random location each run.
  • Why A Tier: Unpredictable but not dangerous. You might spawn in a better or worse position, but the randomization doesn't inherently make the game harder. Just be ready for anything.

Panic

  • Effect: Occasional speed reduction triggers at random intervals.
  • Why A Tier: The speed loss is temporary and predictable once you learn the pattern. Adrenaline upgrade largely counters this curse. Manageable once you know it's coming.

Husk Block

  • Effect: Spawns extra Husk barriers or Husk-blocked paths.
  • Why A Tier: Husks are the easiest enemy in the game. More Husks mean more obstacles but not more danger. Jump over them, go around them, or wait for them to shuffle. Slightly slows your run but rarely kills you.

B Tier — Moderate Challenge

Nearsightedness

  • Effect: Significantly reduces your vision range.
  • Why B Tier: This curse is dangerous because it limits your ability to plan ahead. You can't see enemies until they're close, which reduces your reaction time. Counter: Buy Radar upgrade to detect enemies through limited vision.

Fear

  • Effect: Causes periodic fear effects (stun or retreat mechanic).
  • Why B Tier: Getting feared at the wrong moment — like during a platform jump or near an enemy — can be deadly. The effect is temporary but unpredictable. Counter: Keep distance from enemies and plan escape routes.

Beacon Mirage

  • Effect: Creates false/distracting beacons or waypoints.
  • Why B Tier: These illusions can lead you into dangerous areas if you follow them blindly. Once you learn to ignore fake beacons, the curse becomes manageable. Counter: Rely on actual Mart stations and altar locations, not beacons.

Barotrauma

  • Effect: Environmental pressure mechanics that affect movement or health in certain areas.
  • Why B Tier: Forces you to move quickly through affected zones. Lingering in barotrauma areas drains health. Counter: Adrenaline and Double Jump help you pass through quickly.

Mass Infection

  • Effect: Increases Husk spawn rates significantly.
  • Why B Tier: More Husks means more obstacles, but Husks remain individually weak. The danger comes from being overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Counter: Area-of-effect upgrades and mobility to avoid getting surrounded.

C Tier — Difficult Challenge

Ambush

  • Effect: Enemies can spawn near you without warning, especially around corners.
  • Why C Tier: This curse removes your ability to plan safe routes. An enemy appearing right next to you with no detection window can be lethal, especially against tough enemies like Skinwalker or Voidbreaker. Counter: Radar + constant movement. Never stand still.

Cheeseware

  • Effect: Alters game behavior in unpredictable or frustrating ways.
  • Why C Tier: The exact effect varies, making it hard to prepare for. Cheeseware is designed to subvert your expectations, which is dangerous in a game where pattern recognition is key to survival. Counter: Stay adaptable and don't rely on any single strategy.

Delusion

  • Effect: Creates visual illusions — fake platforms, false walls, or phantom enemies.
  • Why Delusion is C Tier: This curse actively tricks you into making bad decisions. Jumping onto a fake platform or running from a phantom enemy wastes time and resources. At worst, you'll fall into a real hazard. Counter: Test platforms before fully committing. Move cautiously.

Bigger Blast

  • Effect: Increases the blast radius of explosive enemies or environmental hazards.
  • Why C Tier: Explosions are already dangerous. Doubling the radius means you need much more distance to be safe. Tight corridors become death zones. Counter: Rush through explosion-prone areas. Don't linger near explosive enemies.

Greater Curses Tier List

Greater Curses are enhanced versions that appear in harder modes. These are significantly more dangerous than their regular counterparts.

TierGreater Curses
A (manageable)None — all greater curses are at least B tier
B (moderate)Oblivion (enhanced vision loss)
C (difficult)Malfunction (enhanced Cheeseware), Ballet of Blades (enhanced enemy aggression)
D (devastating)Destroyer (enhanced enemy damage), Doombringer (enhanced enemy spawns + aggression)

Doombringer

  • Effect: Massively increased enemy spawn rate and aggression across all enemy types.
  • Why D Tier: This Greater Curse can make Extreme and Chaos runs nearly impossible. The sheer number of aggressive enemies leaves very little room for error. Only experienced players with optimized builds should attempt runs with Doombringer active.

Destroyer

  • Effect: Significantly amplifies enemy damage output.
  • Why D Tier: When every enemy hits harder, even Husks become threatening. One mistake can end your run. Helmet and Shield become mandatory. Avoid this curse combination if possible.

Ballet of Blades

  • Effect: Enemies move faster and attack more aggressively, especially melee types.
  • Why C Tier: Fast, aggressive enemies force you to constantly be on the move. The "ballet" metaphor is apt — you'll be dancing between enemies trying not to get hit. Mobility upgrades are essential.

Malfunction

  • Effect: Enhanced Cheeseware with more extreme and unpredictable behavioral changes.
  • Why C Tier: Like Cheeseware but worse. Game mechanics behave erratically — platforms might shift, enemies might have unusual patterns. Adaptability is your only defense.

Oblivion

  • Effect: Extreme vision reduction beyond what Nearsightedness provides.
  • Why B Tier: While severe, Oblivion is still countered by Radar and Orb upgrades. The vision loss is dramatic but not run-ending with proper preparation. Manageable for prepared players.

Curse Survival Strategy

  1. Identify your curses immediately at the start of each run. Know what you're dealing with.
  2. Build around your curses. If you have Nearsightedness, prioritize Radar. If you have Ambush, prioritize mobility.
  3. Play to the curse, not against it. If Barotrauma makes areas deadly, speed through them instead of trying to clear enemies.
  4. Greater Curses change your build. In Extreme/Chaos, plan for worst-case curse combinations.
  5. Some curse combos are brutal. Nearsightedness + Ambush, or Bigger Blast + Mass Infection can create nearly impossible situations. Recognize when a run is unwinnable and cut your losses.
