Defuse Kit
Defuse Kit is a C-tier situational upgrade in Nullscape that disarms traps and hazards. Learn which hazards it works on, its cost, and the best strategies for safe room navigation.
Defuse Kit
Defuse Kit is a utility upgrade that allows you to disarm traps and environmental hazards scattered throughout Nullscape's rooms. Spike panels, explosive barrels, tripwire traps, and other dangerous environmental elements can be neutralized with the Defuse Kit, turning deadly obstacles into harmless scenery.
How It Works
When you approach a disarmed trap while carrying the Defuse Kit, an interaction prompt appears allowing you to neutralize the hazard. The disarm process takes a brief moment — during which you are vulnerable and cannot move — after which the trap is permanently disabled for the remainder of the room. Disarmed traps sometimes drop small Sheckle rewards as a bonus for your caution.
The Defuse Kit does not work on all hazards. It is effective against mechanical and chemical traps but does not affect environmental dangers like lava, pits, or enemy-placed hazards. The upgrade also has limited uses per room or run, so you cannot disarm every trap in a trap-heavy room — you must choose which hazards are most threatening and prioritize those.
Cost and Availability
Defuse Kit is priced in the low Sheckles range, making it an inexpensive pickup. It appears with moderate frequency in Mart rotations, often in rooms that precede trap-heavy biomes. The low cost means it is easy to pick up speculatively, but its situational nature means it should only be purchased when you know traps are coming.
Tier Ranking: C
Defuse Kit earns a C-tier ranking because its value is highly situational. In rooms and biomes with heavy trap placement, the Defuse Kit is genuinely valuable and can prevent frustrating deaths. In trap-light areas, it provides essentially no benefit. The disarm animation also creates a vulnerability window where you cannot dodge or fight, which can be dangerous in rooms with both traps and enemies. Most players learn to navigate traps through memorization and timing rather than spending Sheckles on disarming them.
Best Synergies
- Radar: Radar reveals trap locations on the minimap, letting you plan which ones to disarm with the Defuse Kit and which to avoid entirely.
- Shield: If you are caught in a trap's trigger zone while disarming another, Shield absorbs the hit, protecting you during the vulnerable disarm animation.
- Grace Wings: Gliding over trap-covered floors avoids them entirely, making Defuse Kit a backup for traps you cannot fly over.
- Orb: In dark rooms, Orb lets you see traps before stepping on them, and Defuse Kit lets you remove the ones in your path.
Tips
Only purchase Defuse Kit when you know a trap-heavy section is ahead. If you are unsure what is coming, spend your Sheckles on general-purpose upgrades instead. When using the kit, prioritize disarming traps that block critical paths or are positioned near tight platforming sections where a surprise trigger would be fatal.
